Victor 'Swede' Bloomquist of Lysite

THERMOPOLIS - Funeral services for Lysite area resident Victor "Swede" Bloomquist, 71, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. Burial will follow in Monument Hill Cemetery.

Afterward, a luncheon will be served, by members of the Outlaw Trail Ride Association, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He died Oct. 1, 2004, at his ranch home on Bridger Creek, after a long battle with cancer.

Born March 1, 1933, in Shoshoni, he was the son of Arvid and Aleene (David) Bloomquist; and spent his entire life on the family ranch. When he was 14, his father died and he became the head of the household. He quit school to take care of his mother, two sisters, a brother, and the ranch.

He married Darlene Erschabek on March 11, 1951. They later divorced, but remained good friends.

He loved the ranch and his family and dedicated his life to both. In his later years, he enjoyed feeding "his" deer and sage chickens and would not let anyone bother them.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Peggy Joyce Hixson; former wife; two daughters, Vicky and Kathy; two granddaughters; a grandson; a great-grandson; brother, George; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
